Our Elderly- Making A Difference in the Home
Genesis 17 verses 1 – 8 (The Message) says, When Abram was ninety-nine years old, God showed up and said to him, “I am The Strong God, live entirely before me, live to the hilt! I’ll make a covenant between us and I’ll give you a huge family.”
Overwhelmed, Abram fell flat on his face. Then God said to him, “This is my covenant with you: You’ll be the father of many nations. Your name will no longer be Abram, but Abraham, meaning that ‘I’m making you the father of many nations.’ I’ll make you a father of fathers—I’ll make nations from you, kings will issue from you. I’m establishing my covenant between me and you, a covenant that includes your descendants, a covenant that goes on and on and on, a covenant that commits me to be your God and the God of your descendants. And I’m giving you and your descendants this land where you’re now just camping, this whole country of Canaan, to own forever. And I’ll be their God.”
Abraham is our father and grandfather of faith who lived his whole life in service and in adoration unto the Lord. Abraham’s faith in God can be classified as unparalleled. His life made a difference then in his family with his wife, his children and his grandchildren. He ran the race that was before him with fear and trembling. Abraham was a friend of God who loved the Lord so much that He showed up and spoke to him. God made an unending covenant with him that we are still enjoying now after thousands of years.
Genesis 17 verses 15 – 16 (The Message); God continued speaking to Abraham, “And Sarai your wife: Don’t call her Sarai any longer; call her Sarah. I’ll bless her—yes! I’ll give you a son by her! Oh, how I’ll bless her! Nations will come from her; kings of nations will come from her.”
Sarah can also be said to have followed in the steps of her husband. I believe Abraham must have discipled her and because she yielded herself, she also partook of the unending covenant bestowed on Abraham. Sarah was not forgotten when God showed up for Abraham, as God remembered her and bestowed unto her blessings as well as fruitfulness. I believe as Mrs. Abraham, she made a difference and that was why she was able to raise Isaac who also raised Jacob and Esau and they also raised sons that affected generations. Nations were indeed birthed from the single seed of Isaac.
